Altro’s cool new surfaces for ice cream factory

When summer temperatures rise, ice cream sales soar. And, when English Lakes Ice Cream was looking to prepare for the seasonal rush, the company turned to interior surface specialist, Altro, to provide a hygienic solution for its food production area.

As a maker of luxury ice creams and sorbets, English Lakes Ice Cream is an award winning food producer based in Kendal in the heart of the Lake District in the UK. Extreme temperatures, a high risk of spillages and stringent hygiene requirements made the selection of the right wall and ceiling coverings of paramount importance to owners, Peter and Frances Fryer. The husband and wife team chose Altro’s Whiterock ceiling and wall cladding systems for the food production area.

Altro Whiterock is a grout-free, hygienic alternative to tiles. The range provides a smooth, practical surface that is durable and easy to clean – vital in an environment where food is being prepared. It provides an easy to clean surface that can be wiped, steam cleaned or pressure hosed. It is low maintenance and offers resistance to stains, chemical spillages and impact.

Whiterock hygienic wall cladding is fully bonded system of 2.5mm thick semi-rigid hygienic PVCu panels and watertight trims and silicone sealants. An integral bacteriostat prevents bacteria growth. The system is easy to install; in most cases, it can be fixed direct to brick or blockwork. The hygienic ceilings are lightweight and can be easily installed on a suspended grid system or fixed to suitable existing surfaces. Its twin wall construction reduces condensation. Flush fitting lighting, access hatches, air grilles and sprinklers can also be fitted.
